Monetary failure is becoming inevitable

This article posits that there is an unpleasant conjunction of events beginning to undermine government finances in advanced nations. They combine the arrival of a long-term trend of rising welfare commitments with an increasing certainty of a global-scale credit crisis, in turn the outcome of a combination of the peak of the credit cycle and increasing trade protectionism. We see the latter already undermining the global economy, catching both governments and investors unexpectedly.  Few observers seem aware that an economic and systemic crisis will occur at a time when government finances are already precarious. However, the consequences are unthinkable for the authorities, and for this reason it is certain such a downturn will lead to a substantial increase in monetary inflation. The scale of the problem needs to be grasped in order to assess how destructive it will be for government finances and ultimately state-issued currencies... https://www.goldmoney.com/research/goldmoney-insights/monetary-failure-is-becoming-inevitable?gmrefcode=gata

Edward Snowden: Joe Biden Threatened Countries Not To Give Me Asylum

... EDWARD SNOWDEN: Well, this is not an actively seeking, this is not a new thing. And this is important history, especially for those people who don't like me. For those people who doubt me, who have heard terrible things about me. It was never my intention to end up in Russia.  I was going to Latin America and my final destination was hopefully going to be Ecuador. I applied for asylum in 27 different countries around the world. Places like France and Germany, places like Norway, that I felt the U.S. government and the American public could be comfortable, that was fine for a whistleblower to be in, and yet every time one of these governments got close to opening their doors, the phone would ring in their foreign ministries and on the other end of the line would be a very senior American official.  It was one of two people. Then-Secretary of State John Kerry or then vice president Joe Biden. And they would say, look, we don't know what the law is, we don't care if you can do this or not, we understand that protecting whistleblowers is a matter of human rights and you could do this if you want to. But if you protect this man, if you let this guy out of Russia, there will be consequences. We're not going to say what they're going to be, but there will be a response.

I continue, to this day, to say, look, if the United States government, if these countries, are willing to open the door, that is not a hostile act. That is the act of a friend. If anything, if the United States continue is so concerned about Russia, right, shouldn't they be happy for me to leave? And yet we see they're trying so hard to prevent me from leaving. I would ask you, why is that?...  https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2019/09/16/edward_snowden_joe_biden_threatened_countries_not_to_give_me_asylum.html?

Trump Tells Bankrupt UN to Find Money Elsewhere

... While the exact numbers are hard to pin down because so many federal agencies provide so many funding streams to the UN and its maze of bureaucracies — not to mention the "peacekeeping" — official estimates suggest the U.S. government sends well over $10 billion per year. American taxpayers pay more than 185 other UN member states, combined. And in return for all that money, the UN constantly attacks Americans' liberties while praising and aiding mass-murdering regimes.

The official UN deficit is about a quarter of a billion dollars. In a letter addressed to the almost 40,000 bureaucrats based at the UN Secretariat, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, a radical socialist, sounded the alarm about the numbers. “Member states have paid only 70 percent of the total amount needed for our regular budget operations in 2019,” he complained. “This translates into a cash shortage of $230 million at the end of September. We run the risk of depleting our backup liquidity reserves by the end of the month.” If the situation does not improve, the UN could default on salaries to employees and payments to vendors very soon.

But Trump was unmoved by the whining. “So make all Member Countries pay, not just the United States!” he fumed on Twitter in his typical style. Prior to that, speaking at the UN in New York City, Trump told “world leaders” last month that the UN needed to ensure that “no member state shoulders a disproportionate share of the burden.” As of right now, the General Assembly, which UN bosses such as then-Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon have dangerously characterized as the “Parliament of Humanity,” decides how much each government is expected to hand over from their citizens... https://www.thenewamerican.com/world-news/north-america/item/33652-trump-tells-bankrupt-un-to-find-money-elsewhere

Statistician Rethinks Gun Control After Digging into the Data

Statistician Leah Libresco said she used to be for gun control. Then she looked at the data. Writing at the Washington Post, the former newswriter for the data journalism site FiveThirtyEight explained her epiphany.

“Before I started researching gun deaths, gun-control policy used to frustrate me. I wished the National Rifle Association would stop blocking common-sense gun-control reforms such as banning assault weapons, restricting silencers, shrinking magazine sizes and all the other measures that could make guns less deadly. Then, my colleagues and I at FiveThirtyEight spent three months analyzing all 33,000 lives ended by guns each year in the United States, and I wound up frustrated in a whole new way. We looked at what interventions might have saved those people, and the case for the policies I’d lobbied for crumbled when I examined the evidence.” https://www.investmentwatchblog.com/statistician-rethinks-gun-control-after-digging-into-the-data/

Liberal Hosts of “The View” Push For War & Socialism In Debate With Rand Paul

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) went into hostile territory during an appearance on “The View” where the show’s hosts kissed the political establishment’s butt by pushing for more war in Syria and for America to embrace socialism. Whoopie Goldberg started the interview by asking Paul why he agrees with President Trump’s decision to remove U.S. troops from Syria. Paul stated, “I think these wars are senseless, and so does President Trump, he doesn’t want to get us involved in another Iraq war in Syria.” The Kentucky senator went on to explain how serious war is and that Americans need to ask, “Why we are going to war and who are we fighting?”

Next, Goldberg asked Paul if Trump is going about the decision the right way, suggesting America is leaving its allies in a dangerous situation. Once again questioning whether or not we should be leaving Syria, Whoopie asked if America should walk out in the middle of a conflict and Paul replied, “We should never be there in the first place.” “For many years, the left agreed with me,” Paul said, highlighting the Democrats’ anti-war past before they embraced war throughout the Obama and Trump administrations. The senator tried to educate the co-hosts on the Military-Industrial Complex, telling them “These are the same people that would still have us in Vietnam. These are the same people who say ‘stay at war, stay at war, stay at war.’”... https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=2lplf9njokI
